I have strange files appearing in /var/log/qmail?

I have strange files appearing in /var/log/qmail and in

/var/log/qmail/smtpd that all look like this:

Now this wouldn't particularly worry me, EXCEPT they are all flagged as executable! Also from time to time the file /var/log/qmail/smtpd/current is also being flagged executable!!

Is qmail making these files? What are they?

These log files are created by Multilog from the daemontools package.
