When first introduced to the Cyber Sentry system most ISP's and ASP's
tell us that they could develop a replica system quite easily.
While this sort of feedback hurts our feelings, we completely
understand. The reality is that there are manysource alternatives
to the Cyber Sentry system and using one of these would seem, at first glance,
to be a good idea.
Multi-Scan
Cyber Sentry is different to other email scanners as it uses multiple Antivirus
engines with all SMTP content being passed through these engines from different
leading vendors, thus allowing greater resilience against known and unknown viruses.
By using multiple engines Cyber Sentry is not governed by a single scan criteria
allowing different analysis of the same code (e.g. heuristics, pattern matching
etc) giving a comprehensive breakdown of every email.
License
To use AV software with yoursource software you need to be get a license from the
AV vendor. Sometimes it is hard to come to an agreement with an AV vendor as they
are reluctant to put their name to a new product or service without proper testing.
Cyber Sentry have been working closely with major AV vendors for several years...so we
have already resolved this issue.
Time
While it is quite easy to install ansource alternative to Cyber Sentry,
dont under-estimate the time it takes to stay ontop of it! Due to the threat
from viruses and the way spam mutates over time it is necessary to update
both the code and the methodology behind the system. On such a mission critical
system would you trust leaving code updates to thesource community?
Cyber Sentry is managed by a team of professional engineers. Updates to the system
are made on most days and are pushed accross our network very quickly.
