Cyber Sentry AntiVirus uses a collection of intelligent rules which strip out emails that  have certain characteristics or file attachments. These crude rules block about 90% of the email that eventually gets quarantined.

This type of scanning also stops most undesirable email from getting to the next levels of the scan system. This saves valuable processor resources this allowing us to add more intrusive scanning at the later stages of the system.

Gone are the days when companies just use DAT file technology to protect email. While DAT file technology will protect to a certain degree, most companies who provide protection now use an element of heuristic scanning. Heuristic scanning refers to the ability of the software to flag suspicious files or attachments because they resemble known viruses. We have written our own heuristic scanning product called CyberSeek. CyberSeek has been developed by our technology team over the past three years and relies on the knowledge that we have gained from scanning hundreds of millions of emails.

No antivirus system would be complete without using DAT file technology. Cyber Sentry Antivirus uses two commercial antivirus products to scan all SMTP content. These scan engines change from time to time. The system curently uses the Sophos Sweep product and Command Antivirus.
