Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's):

Initial setup (temporary setup) (Technical insight)

To allow our users a time to test Cyber Sentry, we will organise a free trial on our system. This will allow prospective customers to use our system for a short period, before they start to pay for the service.

During the free trial period we will collect your email from your current ISP / Hosting Company and pass it through our servers, ultimately passing it to a POP3 compliant email address residing on our network. We will provide you with the access details to collect emails that are sent to this account, to do this all you have to do is change a few settings in your email software.

Under normal conditions we will collect your email and pass it to a POP3 account, which will have the same user-id and password as your previous account on your ISP’s server. This will mean that all you will have to do is change your settings in your email software to collect your email from its new location. This is a trivial procedure. Details on how to change these details on some popular software packages are listed here.

The actual process that we use to collect your email from your ISP / Hosting Company uses a utility resident in the Linux operating system, Fetchmail. Using Fetchmail, we will collect your email and using SMTP pass it to our mail server gateway. This process will be run every 60 seconds for the duration of the trial period. While this will delay your email, the delay is absolutely minimal, in most cases less than 2 seconds.

Should you wish to discontinue the service, we will just disable the fetchmail system and return your system is back to normal!
